Hearts At War

Daylight cuts through my shattered coat of mail
The colours of war still painted across my skin
Amidst the sound of galloping horses & screaming casualties
The rhythm of his heart finds me torn in silence.

A sworded tongue lay swollen in my mouth
Paralyzed by the pungent taste of tarnished metal
I pull back my eyelids as far as a sandstorm would allow
To find a face reveling in my inevitable defeat.

He stood idle .. at a vast distance
The luminous wrath of Ares still burning in his eyes
His desire to dash a fresh spill of blood across pristine sands
Still evident by the twitching in his fingertips.

Against harsh, dust-filled winds & clamorous thoughts
I raise myself to offer opportunity to sate such a salubrious lust
To offer gratification nearing the end of my being
So that I may sate the hunger of a thousand suns.

Let the world watch as I foolishly fall once again to this bloodstained battlefield
Fill the goblets & let the callous demons imbibe endless pitchers of wine
And as my bones slowly escape the responsibility of carrying battered flesh
I take comfort in falling .. for him all over again.
