Broken Lights

Cripple your bones
And lay them beside me
Let us begin to settle broken thoughts
These memories that cut through your bed sheets.

They who have threaded their needles with misery
Have sewn your eyes shut so you may never see the light
The radiance of their hearts shone over your brothers & sisters
Endlessly punishing your searching hands & restless feet.

Nailed to a cross, they yell out in pain
As the wood drives splinters through their backs
And you listened to them, they who carved you from Hell
For you were the cross who forcefully shared the puncturing nails.

The memory of sin bled into you
From their corrupt flesh into yours
The feasting maggots following the stench
Eating away at your invulnerable heart.

Monster .. you remain courageously torn beside me
Masked by the blood aged beyond your years
I tremble at the touch of your scarred hands
As the wounds of your weary history caresses me.

Love, gently laced in the brilliance of your rage
You are strange .. terrifying & captivating
Monster .. there was never any light in them for you to discover
For it has always been inside you.
